RONALD JOSEPH DEERING
TOWNSEND -
Ronald J. Deering, 48 of 37 New Fitchburg Road, died Wednesday April 25, at the
Nashoba Community Hospital, Ayer, after a lengthy illness (Colon Cancer).
Born in Boston December 3, 1941, son of Esther (Gates) Deering and the late
Joseph Lewis Deering and had lived in Townsend since 1973.
Mr. Deering was a 1960 graduate of Ayer High School. Following his graduation
from high school he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served for 10 years,
the last three as a staff sergeant, including a tour in Vietnam.
He was a 1973 graduate of Fitchburg State College, where he received his BA in
History.
Mr. Deering was a member of the Townsend Congregational Church, as well as the
church's outreach committee. He was formerly an Eagle Scout in the Shirley Boy
Scout Troop-1.
Mr. Deering was employed for the past 17 years as a Production Coordinator at
the Sterilite Corporation in Townsend.
Besides his mother of Shirley, he is survived by his wife of 17 years, Cynthia
(Hardy) Deering; a daughter, Amanda Deering of Townsend; and a brother, James
Deering of Shirley. He was also the father of Sarah Deering, who died in March
1982.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Townsend Congregational Church,
Brookline St. Townsend. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery. Funeral Director
was the T. J. Anderson & Son.
